Photography Retreats
Glimpse into the Retreat
Each retreat will be a week long immersive experience within a uniquely beautiful and deeply cultural part of the world. You will learn how to mesh into cultural and physical landscape, build your own aesthetic perspective and capture elements of humanity, natural, landscape and beauty. We will cover both foundation and refinement: choosing the right lenses, mastering exposure and composition, understanding light and color, and building a cohesive visual narrative. Beyond technique, this workshop is about learning how to think, how to see, and how to tell a story. By the end, you’ll create a body of work—designed as a beautiful coffee table book and portfolio—that reflects your unique perspective.
Most importantly, I want to teach you my personal when’s and the why’s of photography that have developed throughout my career of 40 +years.
When
There’s a legendary moment where a photographer finally finds the illusive snow leopard, only to keep the lens cap on. He chooses to live the moment rather than capture it, creating a sentiment about rediscovering the magic in the mundane. True photography is a dance between two instincts: knowing exactly when to lift the camera to tell a story and knowing when to put the camera down, take a breath and simply be.
Why
When we live somewhere for a long time, our eyes tend to glaze over the magic. We become blind to the beauty of our own “backyard”. But the most extraordinary stories aren’t always found in far-off lands, they are hidden in the shadows of your porch or the way the morning light hits your favorite worn-out chairs.
We’ll explore storytelling through both wide and intimate perspectives: the sweep of a room capturing where the messes lay and the quiet details within it; the rituals, the food and drink, the clothing, the architecture, the subtle imperfections that make a place human. A single space can tell endless stories depending on what you include—and what you leave out.
We are all creative. We are all storytellers. My goal is to help you access your deepest creativity, refine your eye, and learn to tell visual stories with clarity, intention, and heart.
A Tuscan Spring: A Week-Long Photography Workshop
Join me October, 2026 for an intimate, immersive seven-day photography workshop set amid the breathtaking landscapes of Tuscany. With more than 40 years behind the lens, I want to share the techniques, insights, and creative philosophies that have shaped my career—and help you discover your own eye.
This is a thoughtfully designed week dedicated to building and refining your skills, whether you’ve never picked up a camera or you’re an experienced photographer ready to deepen your craft. Surrounded by a small group of like-minded creatives, you’ll work in a new and inspiring environment—one that encourages connection, growth, and artistic journey.
Together, we’ll explore Tuscany at its most poetic: soft morning mist drifting across cypress-lined hills, golden light washing over ancient stone villages, quiet rituals unfolding in kitchens and piazzas. You’ll learn how to blend into a historic setting and observe it with authenticity—capturing not just images, but the timeless essence of Italy’s heartland.
A Week of Food & Travel Photography in Essaouira, Morocco
September 10–16, 2026
Max 8 Participants
There is a city on the Atlantic edge of Morocco where the wind has been shaping things for centuries: stone, light, desire, and the particular patience of fishermen who’ve learned to wait. Essaouira smells of salt, charcoal and fresh-caught sardines. Medina walls glow blue-white in the morning. Its souks overflow with preserved lemons, spices, olives. And its Atlantic light is unlike anything else on earth. Morocco is a place where I have been many times, and each time it reminds me why I picked up a camera in the first place.
In September 2026, I’m inviting a small group of photographers, no more than eight of you, to spend a week with me at a private beach villa on the edge of this ancient walled city. We’ll work together every day; in the souks, by the ocean, in the kitchen as the tagines come together, at the table in the evenings as we look at what we made and ask ourselves why.
About Me.
I’ve spent my career photographing the world’s most extraordinary food and the people who make it, from the kitchens of Michelin-starred restaurants to the home tables of Morocco, Italy, and beyond. My work has appeared in the world’s leading food publications and on the shelves of iconic cookbooks. What I want to share with you in Essaouira isn’t technique but a way of approaching the world: with curiosity, patience, and an eye trained to find the right moment.
A glimpse of a typical day in Essaouira
Every day will be different. Somedays we’ll start early when the medina belongs to bread sellers and fishmongers and cats. I’ll lead you through the souks working on textures and light and geometry. Later we return to the villa, where cooking becomes part of the classroom: I’ll show you how to photograph food in progress, the steam lifting from a tagine, the imprecise beauty of hands preparing food, the storytelling power of a half-eaten meal.
We’ll also visit Tissa, a nearby fishing village where the catch still comes ashore in wooden boats. I’ll talk about the ethics of travel photography: how to enter a space with respect, how to make images that honor rather than extract. Evenings are long dinners at the villa table over conversation, looking at the day’s work together, designing your coffee table work of art.
What you will discover.
My goal is to help you cultivate your creative eye. You’ll master the art of stepping into an unfamiliar space and instinctively "finding the shot." We’ll explore:
Visual Storytelling: Knowing exactly what to include (and what to leave out) for maximum impact.
Atmospheric Food Photography: Capturing the soul of a dish in real-world settings.
Travel Narrative: Blending culture, light, and texture into a cohesive story.
By the end of the week, you won’t just have photos—you’ll have a curated photographic essay of your journey through Essaouira, ready to be edited and transformed into a stunning, professional-grade coffee table book.
The Villa
We’ll be staying at a private beach villa just outside Essaouira with four sea-view suites, exclusive use for our group, and light at every hour of the day that makes you want to photograph everything. I chose it because the terrace and the pool face the Atlantic, and the staff become part of what we’re making together.
Who This Is For
I’m looking for people who love food, travel, and the idea that a photograph can make someone feel something. You don’t need to be a professional, though if you are, you’ll find plenty here to challenge you. What I need from you is curiosity and a willingness to slow down
